This is getting in the way of dealing with critical issues of our time and making this nation way too difficult to govern. The BP tragedy is the result of a situation I've seen so many times. The bosses were so far over budget they knew they'd get fired if they went further over. So they took a risky short-cut and now so many are being hurt. Our country seems to romantisize earlier eras when our immigration policy was not much better, but we survived... or at least have forgotten the struggles.

I wish immigration were not such a difficult issue, but it challenges the new commandment in a way that many of us are not prepared to face.

bfbryan farleyhttp://www.morethankids.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4340402295946181356.post-57039982287727302542010-05-20T20:32:24.556-05:002010-05-20T20:32:24.556-05:00Selah V.:
First, we need to ask ourselves a very...Selah V.:

First, we need to ask ourselves a very simple question: "What would Jesus do in a situation like this?" Too many Christians are too busy taking political stands before asking that crucial question. Let's not forget how Jesus responded to the Woman at the Well and in many other situations.

Second, we can begin by reminding any state or population that wants to write such laws that many, many people of Hispanic descent are true, red-white-and-blue U.S. citizens, who pay taxes, vote in elections, own homes, raise families, and love this country and serve her well. We must do nothing that makes them feel ill at ease. We certainly would not try to make people of German, English, French and other nationalities feel slighted. Why should we make our Hispanic friends and neighbors feel trampled upon?

Third, we need to stop the hysteria. Undocumented Hispanics are not terrorists. The undocumented workers are people who are here usually because they are poor, uneducated, and desperately wanting to claw their way out of the bottom. We have much to fear from some of the maniacs in the world—starting with that nut case in North Korea—but undocumented Hispanic workers are not in that league.

Fourth, we need a national policy that sees Mexico and Central America as top priorities of U.S. interests. For too long we have wasted our fortunes overseas in faraway places and neglected the people right next door. If the Mexican and Central American economies were strong and their people had jobs and education, we would not have a problem with illegal immigration. Hungry people swim rivers to cross borders; people with food on their tables and a secure sense of their own abilities in their own country don't need to sneak across borders. A strong Mexico with a low unemployment rate would attract many of her citizens to return home voluntarily.

And lastly, we need to develop an immigration policy that is fair to all peoples of this earth. We need to remember that when the Irish, German, and many other nationalities arrived on these shores our country's national policy was "Give me your tired, your poor, your yearning masses . . .."

Thanks for asking.

Blessings,LOUIS MOORE OF GARLAND, TXhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12850587357813041756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4340402295946181356.post-58515113171637452932010-05-20T19:57:15.522-05:002010-05-20T19:57:15.522-05:00Really enjoyed your blog on immigration. I doubt you see our laws as unnecessary to follow because of the early settlers who came to America.

So what should we do? I just finished editing a book where the author told about the nightmare he went through dealing with his private health insurance company to get the correct care for his wife, who suffered a stroke. He, too, opposes government-run health care, but he makes a clear call for something being done to straighten out the tangled mess in the health insurance business. I think we all agree reform is necessary—how to get it is the main issue.LOUIS MOORE OF GARLAND, TXhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12850587357813041756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4340402295946181356.post-344882866989141342009-08-20T23:52:12.205-05:002009-08-20T23:52:12.205-05:00Bro. While on each of your points I have thoughts, one that strikes me to the core is #3. I don't have insurance, and just went through thousands of dollars in testing to rule out a heart conditon because of my symptoms. I sincerely doubt my doctor would have ordered all those tests if it wasn't for the possibility of a lawsuit. Today I am paying monthly payments on all those testings. So "money" was not the "determining factor in deciding whether" I received "medical care".

There are other things that can be done to get health-care to people. I have shared some of them with my congressman. But the government wants to control it all.

I wonder what will eventually happen to doctors who refuse to accept the government-run health-card that a prospective patient brings in? I wonder if the government will take them over like GM. Will doctors' licenses be revoked if they choose to opt out? I wonder if we'll see Waxman sending them letters to turn over how they spent their vacations. I wonder if a Czar will be appointed to monitor how much exercise I get, how many Oreos I eat.

I've dealt with VA when my dad needed a heart by-pass (4 of them) and they put him in a priority waiting line. After waiting 2 weeks in the VA hospital, I confronted the surgeon and asked him if my dad had went to the public hospital would he have already had the surgery. He said, "Yes." I told the doctor that I wanted him transferred to a private hospital, that my dad was fully insured and didn't have to stay in that hospital any longer. Daddy was a POW in WW II. He had earned the "right" to VA care but he was fully insured by Bluecross Blueshield. The doctor wouldn't release him unless I found a doctor who'd take him. I did that very day and told the VA doctor. Just before daddy was set to be transferred, the VA doctor miraculously found a spot open to do the surgery the next day and the doctor promised Daddy would have the surgery. Why? Because they discovered daddy had insurance and the VA would be reimbursed for that surgery. Meanwhile daddy's heart was damaged because of the delay of treatment. I watched daddy die a very slow death for years due to that delay. Had he been given the medical care he needed rather than the rationed care they offered at VA, then life could have been very different for daddy.

Do we need health-care reform in this country? Absolutely. But not the way HR-3200 is planning it to be done. selahVselahVhttp://selahvtoday.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4340402295946181356.post-43184500607319869092009-08-02T18:06:27.608-05:002009-08-02T18:06:27.608-05:00I'm glad to know that about Chuck. I do agree with you that it might be hard for Obama supporters to feel wanted in church. But it need not be so, I do not hate anyone for voting for him. He was quite the speaker and organizer.

It's hard for me to comprehend the support for a man who supports abortion as he does and forces taxpayers to fund it around the world. It's equally hard to divorce myself from the fact that liberal views are being forced down my and my grandchildren's throats, too. Things such as the President's recent proclamation promoting Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, and Transexual pride with it's own bonafide and American endorsed month. I do not think I've ever heard of any other US president doing so.

To teach the inerrancy of our Bibles we must confront these issues, do we not? Or are we considered legalists for broaching such subjects? It's not Republican versus Democrat that I necessarily support; it's immoral views being forced upon me and mine that I do not support. I have several wonderful Democrat friends and they do not support these things.

As we "take a deep breath", I find myself inhaling air I do not want to breathe. I want a president with moral grit, along with brilliance, mastery of language and charisma. How can these things which our President endorses not affect the church as gay and lesbians test the laws being put in place? Is there really separation of church and state, or is there only separation from church in state, but not state in church? Are we not sliding down a slippery slope? I'm not one of the SB leaders, but just a lady in the pew who is concerned. I'm very concerned we are not reaching the lost but when we have them in our churches, do we speak politically correct so as not to offend? Some folks are gonna be offended by the Gospel, aren't they? And when they study the whole Word of God, some will be offended with it also. I'm cut to the bone anytime I read a passage on pride. And well I should be.

Thanks for letting me rattle my marbles a bit. They get loose in my brain sometimes and spill out all over everything. selahVselahVhttp://selahvtoday.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4340402295946181356.post-35504093184607195952009-03-26T09:19:00.000-05:002009-03-26T09:19:00.000-05:00nice post.. any idea to support layoff is good? do...nice post.. any idea to support layoff is good? doing assignment on this topic.. duh..Kuching Remisier Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12625064790752426536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4340402295946181356.post-76826746802824741562009-03-13T14:45:00.000-05:002009-03-13T14:45:00.000-05:00Could the decline have anything to do with the wit...Could the decline have anything to do with the withdrawing of God's Spirit from the American scene, as we move further into materialism and hedonism? S. between Church and politics. But then I began to realize that he was in danger of doing the same thing, with the other side of the coin.

Interestingly, I see no push in the NT to address cultural issues, apart from the proclamation of the gospel (which when embraced, should lead to compassion and generosity).

While the apostles were under great governmental corruption, they did not try to change laws, for perhaps they knew that heart-change was the real issue.

I fear that both the Dobson's and Wallis's of America may (accidentally) confuse the Church and culture as to the chief calling of the Saints: to proclaim the good news of Christ to a world dying without him.

I hope that this observation does not distort in any way, the value of "true religion--caring for orphans and widows in their distress," as should be the outcome of saving faith.

But there are many good deeds done my unredeemed people, who help the world now, but have no message of hope for the future.

May we do both, but never allow the gospel to sit in the back seat.Lancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10273969962411317978noreply@blogger.com
